One of the main tools created by 6 Youth NGOs during Start-up Explorers project, co-funded through Erasmus+ Programme and coordinated by DGT Association is the educational board game named Cycle of Life.
The board game has been prototyped by 18 youth workers, during an international seminar held in Rosario, Argentina, in the autumn of 2019.
Why an educational board game?
- Play is an important part of our mental and social development.
- Games provide stories and information, presented in a new format.
- Many board games challenge students to think critically.
- Playing a board game is an “inquiry-based research process.”
- Board games are an effective way to employ cooperative learning.
The board game Cycle of life is an important tool to provide hands-on and heads-on skill and knowledge development for young people on entrepreneurship education. The board itself provides a visual metaphor to help connect information. Game elements, discussions, and problem solving with fellow team members about the content are vehicles for learning. Subtle redundancy to reinforce learning and ensure retention should be incorporated into the game design. Good questions, problems to solve, and situations to consider allow players to think through and apply what they learn.
The boardgame it’s useful for youth workers, educators, families and young people interested to broaden their know-how on entrepreneurship education.
